The Fastest Way to Lose Weight

Tuesday, January 20th, 2009

Yes, I know the absolutely fastest way to lose weight. In fact if you try my method I bet you can lose at least 5% of your weight (10lbs if you’re 200lbs) in a week. The best news about this method is that it is incredibly simple and anybody can do it. Even better there are no products to buy or special foods to purchase. This method will actually save you money!!!

The method I am referring to is called don’t eat. With don’t eat you simply do not eat. A very simple program that anybody can do and will actually save you money on groceries. You can do it for as long as you would like (although it’s not recommended) until you achieve your ideal weight.

Of course this is a joke. Another fast way to lose weight is to cut off a limb. The point is that you should not be focused on losing weight at an incredible pace but rather focus on losing the right kind of weight, fat not muscle, and focus on changing your lifestyle habits so you can maintain the weight loss.

There are many drastic measures you can take to lose weight but I guarantee none of them are healthy and you will not maintain the weight you do lose. Nobody can live their life on a starvation diet or working out 20 hours a week. Your focus should be on making small lifestyle changes week after week that will lead to huge results.

The person who loses 20lbs in a month and then regains 30lbs the next month and has to restart again has really only gained 10lbs in 2 months and lost nothing. Remember it’s not where you currently are but where you end.

My Favorite Weight Loss Foods

Tuesday, January 20th, 2009

There are a million and one concepts on which the best foods to eat are when you are trying to lose weight. I prefer real food. Sure you can eat the bars, shakes, and microwave meals but are you really going to eat that stuff forever. If the answer is no then it’s going to be very difficult to lose weight. Here is a list of some of my favorite weight loss foods and why I love them so much.

Chicken

Chicken is a great weight loss food because it is extremely healthy and easy to make. The fact that it is a great source of protein and skinless chicken breasts have almost no fat should make it a no brainer. Plus you can cook chicken literally hundreds of different ways. Get a good recipe book and chicken will become a staple in your weight loss efforts.

Brown Rice

I love brown rice and as a weight loss food I love it even more. Not only is it filling and can keep you satisfied for hours it is also a great source of complex carbs which will be a great fuel for your workouts. The nice thing about rice being a complex carb is that it will not spike your insulin levels which is one of the leading factors in weight gain.

Veggies

Now, I know many of you are telling yourself that you don’t like veggies but that is probably not true. I don’t know a lot of people who would enjoy taking a bite straight out of an onion but many people love onions on salads, sandwiches, and burgers. The great thing about veggies is that they have little to no calories, can add immense flavor to any dish, and increase the volume of any dish resulting in you feeling fuller from fewer calories.

Chicken, brown rice, and veggies are some of my favorite weight loss foods and I hope you will include them in your weight loss arsenal. However, I do know that everyone has their own tastes and you have to choose foods you truly enjoy.

How to Lose Belly Fat

Tuesday, January 20th, 2009

If you are like just about everyone else you have one area of your body were fat accumulates. For me it is my belly, for some others it might be the butt, hips, or thighs. It really is almost 100% genetic. One of the most asked questions in all of fitness is, “How do I lose belly fat?”.

Unfortunately, the answer is that you lose it just like any other kind of fat. It is actually impossible to spot reduce. Think about this for a second. If there is a very fat man or women and he or she wants to lose the fat around their chin or neck what would you recommend? How about chewing gum? If that person chews gum all the time is that going to cause them to lose weight from their chin? Absolutely not. This is no different than all of those infomercials you see on tv about all sorts of different products that you can use to lose weight from your stomach.

The way the body loses weight is in layers. Think of your body as an onion. An onion has many layers and you can peel those layers off one by one until you have no onion. Your body loses weight in the same manner. It doesn’t know you want to lose it in one area so it metabolizes fat cells from your entire body.

I hope this helps to bust any myths that people still believe about spot reduction. My goal is to help you lose weight from your entire body so you are healthier and your entire body looks better.

Best Exercises to Lose Weight

Tuesday, January 20th, 2009

Are you tired of endlessly working out and never seeing any result? Or do you just want to know the best bang for your buck exercises to lose weight quickly? Here we are going to examine some of those exercises to see if we can help you lose more weight.

Experts agree that the best exercises to lose weight are resistence exercises or weight training. This is because weight training fatigues your muscles and actually breaks them apart. The result is that your body has to work (i.e. burn calories) to put those muscles back together again. The good news for you is that this raises your metabolism for 24-48 hours after your workout. In addition, the new muscle you build also increases your metabolism. This is why men are able to keep weight off easier than women. With this in mind we are gong to focus on the exercises that will build the most muscle throughout your body. Don’t worry you won’t get big and muscular overnight, it takes years for that to happen. The exercises we will focus on will target your three largest muscle groups: legs, back, and chest.

Squat

The basic barbell squat is considered the top muscle building exercise known to man. It works nearly every muscle head to toe and that is why it is so great for weight loss. It hits the quads, hamstrings, glutes, and lower back with even more emphasis and this is where you will probably get the most sore. I recommend you find a good how-to article on the internet before attempting this or any exercise and focus on great form before you get too serious. Always make sure you have a spotter when doing squats.

Barbell Row

The barbell row really targets your back and also hits your biceps. This is a great exercise that also take some practice to get used to. The back is one of the most neglected muscle groups by all trainees simply because nobody can see their own back. For our purpose, losing weight, it is a great muscle group because it is so big and we can really add some quality muscle here.

Bench Press

Yes the most famous exercise of all, the bench press is a great exercise that targets the chest, shoulders, and triceps. With this exercise not only are you targeting one of the three largest muscles the pecs but you are also hitting the shoulders and triceps. This is another move you will want to focus on learning before performing and always make you have a spotter.

To get the most benefit out of these exercises I would recommend performing each one at least twice a week. Within 3-4 weeks you should really begin to notice a difference in your body. Just remember form and safety always come before lifting big weight.

A Word on Weight Loss Products

Tuesday, January 20th, 2009

If you are just an average Joe or Jane it is pretty much impossible to just know which weight loss products work if any at all. I highly recommend you do as much research as possible and find good sources of information you can turn to. I will tell you right now that I believe there are many good quality weight loss products on the shelves right now. However, before you use them you should really understand what they are doing to your body and always consult a doctor.

The types of weight loss products are nearly endless. You have pills, powders, creams, treadmills, dumbbells, and the list goes on and on. It seems like every night a new commercial is on television with a brand new “breakthrough weight loss product”. Give me a break.

My best advice on purchasing weight loss products is that they must all have 3 key elements. These elements are:

1: Proven
2: Reliable
3: Enjoyable

So before buying a product make sure it is proven to work. There is nothing worse than spending your hard earned cash on something that doesn’t even do what it says it does. Do you research. It must be reliable. This means that if it is a hard product like a treadmill or workout station that it isn’t going to break down in 3 months and need repair. Or if it is a weight loss pill it’s not going to make you sick or have side effects. Finally, it must be enjoyable to use. If you don’t enjoy using it you probably won’t use it for long making it a waste of money.

Don’t waste your money. Always thoroughly research all weight loss products.
