Aloe Vera Juice Health Benefits Reviewed

October 27th, 2009

There are a number of ways to lose weight and, when you put them all together, you can turn your body into a mean, fat-burning machine.

But, for me, the major obstacle to weight loss has always been my diet. I used to hit the gym on a nearly daily basis, training for hours on end. Unfortunately, I was just wasting my energy because I would pile on frozen pizzas, gyros, brats, beers and (my favorite) bacon.

Unfortunately, my diet was devoid of many essential vitamins and nutrients. As a result, I felt as though I had issues with my colon. I was irregular as well as unsatisfied. My digestive abilities were sub par and my metabolism had slowed to a lurch. Subsequently, the weight was piling up.

I lost interest in training because I was not seeing the results I desired. The hard work simply wasn’t paying out.

It wasn’t until I began to incorporate Aloe Vera juice and Apple cider vinegar into my diet that I began to lose weight naturally. I learned, by simply ingesting mere ounces of these liquids into my daily regimen, that I would be able to overpower my deep addiction to food as a drug.

You see, it’s not just junk food. Any food that I eat, I feel like I need to consume pounds of it. The food being fatty, cheese and salty only made the gorging of myself a slightly fun activity. I definitely think that nasty food has an ingredient that strictly delivers guilt into its consumer!

But my appetite is entirely different now, and it’s all thanks to me taking shots! How often do you get to say that? I simply take a shot of Aloe Vera juice in the morning (in my orange juice, so it won’t taste nearly as terrible). And, before each meal, a quick shot of apple cider vinegar and honey.

What the apple cider vinegar has done, as far as I’m concerned, has made me feel satisfied with regular amounts of food. On top of that, it’s a serious appetite suppressor. Just knowing I have to drink vinegar makes me not want to start a new meal. Aside from that, I feel as though my body is, quite simply, healthier. I just kind of feel full all day and, when I think of eating, I’m not driven wild by the thought of putting something in my mouth just to taste it. Instead, I just don’t feel the need to prioritize the desire for food. It’s kind of hard to describe in words but, honestly, that’s all you really need to know about my experience. Hippocrates, when he recommended consistent usage of apple cider vinegar circa 400 B.C., really knew what he was doing.

If you are like me, you will feel the results of apple cider vinegar immediately. The same goes for Aloe Vera juice.

I am digesting my food so much better now and I’m not overeating, thanks to the pH balance-balancing properties of the Aloe Vera juice! It immediately cured the indigestion I didn’t even realize I had! I have yet to be driven by a sudden urge for junk food (and lots of it) for any reason. I am just finishing my first 16 ounce bottle of Aloe Vera juice and my second 16 ounce bottle of (unrefined) apple cider vinegar. It’s been approximately 3 weeks since I began this regimen. Not only have I cleansed my colon, but I’ve also calmed my stomach. I am never gassy any more and that alone is one reason I’ve loved this new lifestyle change!

Which Is Worse For Losing Weight - Fat or Sugar?

April 16th, 2009

Trying to Lose Weight?
Which One Should You Avoid - Fat or Sugar?

Our bodies need certain amounts of fat for sustaining us in our basic functions. Good fats exist same as bad ones. Trans fat should never enter a person’s body, for any reason. Saturated fats should only add up to 25% or less of your fat intake.

The other 75% should be made up of the GOOD fats. There are monosaturated and polyunsaturated, along with the Omega 3,6, and 9 fatty acids. You can get these from seeds, fish, and nuts.

So far in reference to the question of when you’re trying to lose weight which one should you avoid - fat or sugar?, we find that we can’t avoid fats altogether. Only the bad ones. So what about sugars?

Sugar when not in its natural form is never good. There are good sugars from honey and fruits, but the refined sugar is just not a healthy prospect.

Once eaten, sugary foods will have a large impact on your blood sugar levels. These rises in blood sugar levels are what makes the pancreas release the hormone known as insulin. It creates the process of taking the converted sugars which are now glucose, and having them absorbed into body cells, and affecting the fat cells. Sugars contribution to fat is overwhelming.

The technical processes of the sugar being taken in and eventually being stored by the body as fat, is a long and boring story, although real and true. The answer we are looking for here is whether or not these sugars should be eaten when you are trying to lose weight. No. Therefore the answer to the initial question should it be avoided is “YES”.

So while some fats are to be avoided, not all fats are to be avoided. By the same token most all sugars, mainly refined sugars, are to be avoided as well, with natural sugars being alright.

If I had to pick one to avoid, I would pick sugar. But to be honest and fair, in answering our question which is to be avoided between the two - a little of both, but not all of both. We need to ingest the good parts, resist the bad. Both have potential harmful forms, and both have beneficial forms. We are responsible for our intake of any of these forms. Let us be sensible about what we put into our bodies, and not be reckless and be caught off guard by an unwanted disorder.

The Dieting Battle - Rice Vs. Wheat

April 10th, 2009

Who is going to win the fight between these two heavyweights of the diet club. We’ll name this fight card - ‘Dieting - Rice versus Wheat’.it’s a longtime grudge match. Both are talented contenders for your dieting needs, and both will go down swinging. But in the end, we want to know who should actually hold the title as ‘Champion’.

There are as many diets it seems, as there are dieters. Many say today that to get rid of wheat permanently is the way to go. Others disagree. There could be some who are ‘wheat intolerant’ meaning their systems don’t react well to it. It makes sense then for these people to leave the wheat alone.

If you have a wheat-free diet it means you’re gonna have restrictions on things like pretzels, wheat pasta, wheat breads, and any kinds of cereal that contain wheat. I know this is common sense, but some people actually get surprised when you mention this obvious fact, like they didn’t know the cereal they were eating had wheat in it.

The no-wheat plans have their place and work well when applied the right way for the right person. The rice plans, are a bit more involved. With this plan you try to limit your intake of starches, fats, sugars, and processed foods. Limiting these will help you to lose the weight you want.

There is a progressive phase each week in the rice diet plans, for cutting down certain foods. It’s designed to allow the dieter to phase out the old way of eating and phase in the new way, which will enable any weight loss managed from the diet to be kept off by a continuation of a certain food regimen. You switch from the ‘diet’ phase to the ‘maintenance’ phase.

So who wins this match-up between the dieting factors - rice vs. wheat? All things considered, I believe the beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. These two really cater to individual bodies and chemistries. So as the referee in this fight, I call it a draw, since no substantial blows were thrown that could designate a winner. I am leaning toward rice in this battle, but it’s too close to call. In all fairness I have to go by the judges scorecards, so a draw it is. You alone can be the vote that tips the scales in favor of one or the other.

Dietary Supplements for Burning Fat and Losing Weight

March 29th, 2009

Millions of people are looking for dietary supplements for burning fat and losing weight today. The obesity level in our country has climbed to an all-time high. The kinds of foods we eat are unhealthy, and are leading to a country full of unhealthy people.

When people have tried changing their diets and exercising, with no major results, then they turn to dietary supplements for burning fat and losing weight. A large part of these supplements can be bought ‘over the counter’. And the prescription diet pills are much harder to come by, caused by crackdowns due to the abuse of the past few decades.

Bitter Orange is a dietary supplement that when you couple it with the right exercise, can substantially increase the number of calories that you’re able to burn. It’s often compare to ‘ephedra’, which has been known to carry a few side effects.

Chitosan is an absorption blocking supplement. For the most part it’s safe to take, but any weight loss results will be insignificant. The side effects make it hardly worth it, things like constipation and bloating, along with stomach problems.

Chromium is a supplement that helps build muscle and lower your body fat. But again, no majorly significant weight losses.

CLA (Conjugated Linoleic Acid) is an appetite suppressant that promotes building muscle also. Diarrhea and indigestion may result in its use.

Country Mallow, sometimes referred to as ‘heartleaf’, that will reduce appetite and burn more calories. It actually DOES contain Ehedra, so dangers are involved in its use. Just because something can be sold ‘over the counter’ doesn’t automatically make it safe to use.

Ephedra was finally banned by the FDA and has been a contributor to heart attacks. It causes the blood pressure to rise which can lead to seizures and strokes and even death. You can still legally obtain Ephedra in many places, but it is ill-advised for health reasons. However recent laws have changed so you can legally order ephedra online.

Green Tea is now a rage in the health world. It’s anti-oxident contributions and metabolism increasing values, make it a very sought after natural health enhancer. In extract form, however, there may be some problems again with diarrhea or vomiting, and indigestion. The caffeine is troublesome to many when dieting. You can even get free green tea offers online.

Guar Gum lowers the dietary fat absorption and causes you to have a ‘full’ feeling, thus helping to lower your caloric intake. It probably won’t cause significant weight loss and can have some side effects of its own. Flatulence and intestinal obstruction may appear if not taken with water.

Hoodia is a well-known supplement that works as an appetite suppressant. But for weight loss overall, it really can make no substantial claims. This is also being packaged together with ephedra.

Guarana is another superfruit that is a popular supplement in energy drinks. I personally get guarana supplements or drinks in the morning for an extra kick or before a workout session.

Colon Cleansers are being promoted on television a lot lately. Products such as Dual Action Cleanse and Colon Wipe are really taking the health and diet market by storm because of the effectiveness colon cleansers have for weight loss. You can read Dual Action Cleanse reviews online or get a sample of free colon cleanse.

Acai Berry is perhaps the world’s healthiest fruit. Acai berries contain the highest amount of antioxidants and has even been proven to fight against certain cancers. Acai is a definite must for those looking for the best superfruit and weight loss supplement. Go here to get get your free acai berries.

There is much study for the dieter to engage in before jumping into a dietary supplement for fat burning and weight loss product. On the positive side, if you find the right one, and use it correctly, they can sometimes save you money and add to your weight loss in a positive manner. But be careful, and take pains in your choosing.

The Body Fat Connection

March 25th, 2009

Obesity has been getting bad press in recent years because it has been identified as an important risk factor for high blood pressure, heart disease, adult- onset diabetes, and different types of cancer.

Obesity is also a major concern as you take steps to control your cholesterol. For one thing, adding to your percent of body fat will often result in a reduction of your levels of “good” HDL cholesterol.

Being obese will also raise your levels of total cholesterol, “bad” LDL cholesterol, and triglycerides.

There’s an additional concern about where your fat accumulates. Increases in subcutaneous fat on the trunk of the body……such as just under the skin around the abdomen……may have a negative effect by lowering your levels of “good” HDL cholesterol.

Also, those with a high waist- to- hip ratio (found by measuring and comparing the circumferences of those two parts of the trunk) tend to have more of a small, dense form of “bad” LDL cholesterol.

So what’s your healthy level of body fat?

The desired body- fat range for men is 19 percent of total body weight or lower, and for women it is 22 percent or lower. For the most accurate measurements should go to a clinic that does skin fold measurements with calipers or, even better, underwater hydrostatic weighing.

Can Physical Pain from Weight Loss Surgery Affect You Mentally?

March 24th, 2009

Weight loss surgery has grown leaps and bounds as the weight problem has increased in America. There are some insurances that will help with the payments, the advertising is seen all over, and it’s become big business. One question that gets overlooked is “can the physical pain from weight loss surgery affect you mentally?”

From studying things from this perspective you can get a feeling that the two go hand in hand. Anytime your body goes through a shocking experience, it can’t help but have some mental effects as well. Seems logical, like common sense doesn’t it?

It’s true. Not all complications that come from weight loss surgery are physical. It’s a physically rough process, although they have refined it as much as can be possible. There’s the recovery period where you are fed intravenously and can’t take in nutrition as usual.

The pain can be pretty stout for a while, and you have to make yourself get used to moving naturally again. Walking will hurt at first, but eventually you’ll overcome it. Breathing is monitored closely. Avoiding congestion is a concern and the use of an Incentive Spirometer may be called for.

The eating starts off small and works up also. From flaked ice to full fluids is done slowly. You can’t put too much pressure on the wounds from inside, and healing comes gradually.

There are some surgeries that require a person to pass certain mental tests. These are designed to let the doctors know if you can handle the procedure without freaking out afterwards. And if mentally you are up to the challenge and can make your way to a total recovery.

Some of the obese problems that get people to this point of surgery in the first place, start off as something mental. It’s often said that the body follows the mind and spirit. You need to know if this kind of surgery is something you really don’t want to or can’t do without. To Exhaust all other options before taking it on is a good recommendation. The pain that follows directly afterward can be more than some bargained for in their mind before going through with it. This can be mentally challenging and hard to deal with.

The answer to the question “can the physical pain from weight loss surgery affect you mentally?” is a resounding YES.

How To Calculate Your BMI - Body Fat

March 20th, 2009

There is a rough measurement you can use without equipment to find the general body-weight levels that will be likely to limit you to a healthy level of body fat. With this method, which is their personal variation on what is known in exercise physiology as the Mahoney Formula, the calculation is slightly different from women and men.

Note: When you do your calculations, you will come up with two numbers, which represent a range corresponds to a healthy range of body fat. Therefore, if your real weight falls within the range of these numbers, your body fat will fall within the healthy range. (These formulas are derived from studies of normal adult body types. Growing adolescents, highly conditioned competitive athletes, and others with a high proportion of bone or muscle mass may actually have a low percentage of body fat, even though they are relatively heavy.)

The BMI Calculator Formula For Women

To find a body weight containing the healthy range of 18 to 22 percent body fat:

  • Step One: Determine your height in inches.
  • Step two: Multiply the number in Step One by 3.5.
  • Step Three: Subtract 108 from the result in Step Three. This number represents your approximate weight for 18 percent body fat-or the lower weight in pounds for a healthy range.
  • Step Four: Now, multiply the result in Step Three by 10 percent (0.10).
  • Step Five: Add the result in Step Four to the result in Step Three. This will give you a body weight that corresponds wit about 22 percent body fat- or the upper end of the acceptable range for you.
  • Here’s how this formula would work: if you are a women who is five feet three inches in height: First, you find your height in inches, which would be 63 inches. Then, you multiply that by 3.5 to get 220.5. Next, you subtract 108 from 220.5 to get 112.5-or the number of pounds that represents about 18 percent body fat for you.

Now, you multiply 112.5 tomes 0.10, a calculation that gives you 11.25, Finally, add 11.25 to 112.5 and you’ll get approximately 124 pounds-or the upper range of body weight that represents about 18 percent body fat for you.

Now, you multiply 112.5 times 0.10, a calculation that gives you 11.25. Finally, add 11.25 to 112.5, and you’ll get approximately 124 pounds-or the upper range of body weight that represents about 22 percent body fat.

So your desired body weight range for a healthy percent of body fat (18 to 22 percent) is 112.5 to 124 pounds.

What if your actual weight is above 124, to 22 percent body fat? You probably need to lose weight. Consult your physician.

What if your actual weight is below 112.5, or 18 percent body fat? That’s most likely all right….and may be expected if you are particularly athletic or have a naturally low- fat body type.

But generally, for optimum health, a woman’s body- fat percentage should be above about 12 percent of total body weight-for several reasons. Women, even more than men, must guard against losing too much body fat. For one thing, premenopausal women who are too thin may upset their hormonal balance by producing too little estrogen-and as a result experience amenorrhea, or the loss of at least three periods in a row.

Second, a women with too little body fat will be at a higher risk for osteoporosis, or thinning of the bones, which leads to a spontaneous fractures.

Also, a rapid weight loss may indicate another serious health problem, such as gastrointestinal problems or cancer.

Finally, excessively low weight may signal an eating disorder.

The BMI Calculator Formula For Men

To find a body weight containing the healthy range of 15 to 19 percent body fat:

  • Step One: Determine your height in inches.
  • Step Two: Multiply the result in Step One by 4.
  • Step Three: Subtract 128 from the result in Step Two. This is your approximate weight for 15 percent body fat-or the lower weight in pounds for a healthy range.
  • Step Four: Multiply the result in Step Three by 10 percent (0.10).
  • Step Five: Add the result in Step Four to the result in Step Three. This will give you a body weight that corresponds to about 19 percent body fat-or the upper end of the acceptable range for you.
  • So if you’re a man who is five feet ten, your height in inches is 70. Multiply that 4 to get 280. Then substract 128, and you’ll end up with 152 pounds, or the weight that will give you 15 percent body fat.

Now multiply 152 by 10 percent (0.10), and you’ll get 15.2. Add that to 152 pounds, and you’ll have 167.2 pounds as the upper range of healthy body weight for you-a fingure that includes about 19 percent body fat.

In contrast to women, there is less concern for men whose body fat dips below the 15-to-19 percent range- especially those men who are competitive athletes. On the other hand, an unusual or rapid weight loss-or weight loss accompanied by a decline in muscle mass-can suggest health problems that should be evaluated by a physician.

    Is Weight Loss Hypnosis Dangerous?

    March 18th, 2009

People’s first instincts to something they don’t know or understand is usually fear. When confronted with hypnosis, they want to know is weight loss hypnosis dangerous? Things concerning the mind, for some people, become mystical and spooky, and are scary to think about doing. Does weight loss hypnosis even work?

But is weight loss hypnosis dangerous as some may think? Absolutely not. Witchcraft or brainwashing don’t figure in. It simply is a way to communicate with your sub-conscious to enable it to work in a constructive way with your conscious mind to solve a problem. It involves no more danger than learning you ABCs.

When undergoing hypnosis, the hypnotist is really limited in what he or she can get you to do while under hypnosis. But for the purpose of weight loss, which you want to do or else you wouldn’t be here, this is not a problem. They are just there to lead you through the steps and get you to the relaxed state of mind that is more conducive to suggestions.

    The Science:

In over 15000 studies worldwide it was reported in a March 2009 database of NIH, that in searching for dangers of hypnosis, there were no negative reports of danger to be found. It was only found to be an effective tool for treating certain disorders and producing change for the better.

    Why People Fear Hypnosis:

They fear it because they don’t understand it. They’re afraid the hypnotist will be able to make them do anything and do something radical in their lives. Fearing unknown things is common, and real to many. So in order to take advantage of the benefits of hypnosis this has to be overcome.

Facts don’t hold a foundation for these fears. They’re more like superstitions which are just beliefs without facts. They feel like they can be turned into Zombies or something. But if they spend enough time to study some of the mechanic of hypnosis, they would come away with the right point of view.

The belief that hypnosis is dangerous is a myth. And the hypnotist can only help you with something that you DO desire to accomplish. Hypnosis has been around since ancient times, only now it’s much better understood due to advancements in technology and better abilities to study things out.

Is weight loss hypnosis dangerous? Certainly not. I have talked to quite a few people that swear weight loss hypnosis helped them lose weight. I say whatever helps keep you focused on achieving your weight loss goals is great, but discipline is always key. There are quite a few people even using Binaural Brainwaves audio type weight loss hypnosis with great success.

A famous man once put it in the right perspective - the only thing we have to fear - is fear itself.

    Making Weight Loss a Priority

    March 16th, 2009

Those who have lost weight and have kept it off state that a large part of their success was due to their commitment and mental preparation for the challenge. Before you start a weight loss plan, make sure you are willing to commit the time, energy, and expense involved in the process. Figure out if this is the best time to commit to weight loss. Determine if there are any external factors such as stress, financial worries, health, or physical concerns that may hinder your weight loss. Address these issues first. Then, ask yourself if you are dedicated to changing your eating habits, exercising regularly, controlling your food choices, and preparing your own meals.

Once you’ve made up your choice, it is imperative that you stay with it. Prioritizing your weight loss will make it easier for you to choose options that will help you lose weight and avoid foods that may keep you from your goal. When ordering a latte, do you choose skin milk and skip the whip cream so you can reach your goal faster? Or would you rather go with the full-fat option and have the momentary pleasure of drinking something that tastes marginally better? Decide what changes you are willing to make to lose weight and stick with them. The gratification of gradual weight loss will be much more satisfying than the instant gratification of food.

Weight loss will be easier to achieve and maintain if you are consistent with your approach to food. If you severely limit the amount and types of food you eat, you increase the chance that you will feel deprived. Deprivation generally leads to a cycle of starvation and binging. These extreme behaviors can actually make you gain weight. Try to include all healthy foods in moderation and eat your daily recommended amount of calories every day. If you happen to have an unplanned treat, don’t give up your diet and overeat. And don’t feel the need to overcompensate by starving yourself. Consistent behaviors will enable you to lose weight.

If you only knew what’s rotting inside your colon, you would probably go for a quick fix with colon cleanse which may give you some satisfaction.

A Simple But Powerful Exercise Program

    March 15th, 2009

Not everyone’s HDL cholesterol responds to exercise. They have a number of patients who have low HDL cholesterol, but no matter how much they work out-up to and including marathon training-they can’t budge those HDL measurements by one milligram per deciliter.

On the other hand, most people can benefit from a few low- intensity workout every week, such as a vigorous walk or bike ride, So if you are currently pursuing regular endurance or aerobic activity, stay with it.

If you are sedentary, you should immediately begin a program to maximize your HDL protection. Here’s a suggested sequence of steps to get started rather painlessly.

  • Get a medical exam first. If you haven’t been working out, you want to be absolutely sure that you don’t have hidden heart problems or other health concerns.
  • Set aside three days per week, with a day of rest in between.
  • After two to three weeks, increase your walking time to 25 to 30 minutes. Continue at this pace for another three weeks.
  • After six or eight weeks of this regular activity, add an extra day to your routine, with the same time and pace yor’re using on the other days.
  • Using this graduated technique, work up during the next few months to an hour per session at higher rates of walking speed. You can keep track of how fast you’re going by measuring your distance with a car odometer and then keeping a record of the minutes that it takes you to cover a given distance.

After this ,it’s up to you. You will have begun to enjoy significant HDL benefits after your very first workout . Now you’re in the process of developing a higher level of fitness which our studies and else where have shown will decrease your risk of dying from heart problems and all other causes.

Furthermore, you’re in a position to put your exercise together with your diet to benefit from what might be called a diet- exercise synergy.
